Cat’s Story

That’s why this law is so harmful. Because I wasn’t out there having an abortion because I wanted to. I was having one because I didn’t have a choice.
— Cat

Cat and her husband Robert hoped to make their toddler son a brother — but found conceiving for the second time harder than the first. After rounds of IVF and loss, they finally saw a flash of hope in a positive pregnancy test.

Sadly, this light dimmed right around Christmas, at the eight-week checkup. The baby had no brain, and no chance for life.

Immediately, the couple and their healthcare providers entered a bureaucratic nightmare of insurance denials and red tape directly tied to Idaho’s abortion laws. This process plunged Cat into a depression, and the family is now in limbo on whether to try again in the state’s current environment.
